Learn The Difference Between Exercise and Physical Activity – They're Both Important!

Wellness Educator and Registered Nurse Adrienne Jaworski from The Villages Health, discusses how exercise and physical activity affect a person’s health and well-being. This is just one of many videos that offers health and wellness tips at http://bit.ly/2j1jiqn

Jaworski explains the difference between exercise and physical activity. Exercise is activity that is repetitious, is structured, and is well-planned. From going for a walk to taking a swim, exercise improves a person’s health. Physical activity is defined by the things we do physically with our body every day: from yard work to running errands to cleaning the house. However, Jaworski notes that it is possible “pump up” our physical activity to help give us the same benefits as traditional exercise.

She explains that the four cornerstones of good health are 1) healthy weight 2) eating right 3) physical activity and 4) sleep. She also notes that exercise and physical activity help improve health and wellness in many ways, including:
· Helping to maintain and improve physical strength and balance
· Helping to prevent or manage illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer
· Helping to reduce depression and improve mood
· Improving cognitive function by increasing pathways in the brain
