Winning The Mental Battle of Physical Fitness and Obesity | Ogie Shaw | TEDxSpokane

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Physical Fitness does not have to be complicated. There are psychological aspects to staying motivated for fitness and then a few rules to adopt for success. The speaker presents his ideas on motivation, measuring your fitness level, and exercises to become fit.

Ogie Shaw is a native of Raleigh, NC. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. Afterwards, he graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill earning degrees in both Speech and Physical Education, later earning certification as a Health Promotion Director from the Cooper Institute® in Dallas, Texas. He served with the Portland Police Bureau and later joined a national network of medical and fitness leaders dedicated to teaching the health benefits of daily exercise. He has been an author, counselor, seminary graduate and pastor to Portland-area retirement homes. He has trained the Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks, and he has been asked to write a book on his work providing fitness training for paraplegics.

Ogie has had a passion for fitness, health, business, and music all of his life. His career goal is to establish a model for a fitness lifestyle for Americans that is sufficient to impact physical and mental health. He has given over 5000 speeches on fitness motivation.

    After 5yrs of weight training, 3x/week + 3yrs of yoga 1-3x/week = a habit was formed. AND THEN THE PANDEMIC HAPPENED!

    Now I’m trying to get back to the level of fitness I had in early 2020 ==> b4 the pandemic!

    Whole body workout
    I use Dr. Peter M. Miller
    Easy to follow daily menu for everyday life !! 2 weeks. , 1 week Menu

    Guys, losing weight does not need to be difficult (I used to think it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Look for a diet plan called Okibetonic Secrets. Seriously, that course has changed my life. I probably shouldn’t even be talking about it because I do not want a bunch of other folks out there running the same "game" but whatever, I am just in a good mood today so I’ll share the wealth haha.

    Thanks for the laugh Ogie! Sooooooo true! I paid for a gym membership and went twice. I felt the 3 miles was way too far to drive to a gym. And to go to a gym you really need to be in perfect shape. Those were my rationalizations.

    Men’s experience of body image, eating and weight loss is so different from women’s, that i can’t connect to anything male experts say about weight loss.

    But this guy was fantastic! I’m already exercising every day, but he inspires me to do more, with more resistance!

    And EAT FOR NUTRITION!!!

    Solving the exercise motivation problem is very easy. Neitzsche said you can overcome almost any how with a strong enough why. People need to choose a physical challenge to have a reason to train. Without that purpose there is no exercise.
