Back to the Basics – Importance of the 80% Diet and 20% Fitness Rule

http://www.GetFitOver40.com – Back to the Basics – 80% Diet and 20% Fitness Rule.

In this Back to the Basics YouTube Video I talk about the importance of diet over fitness, obviously both are important to your overall health but you simply can not exercise enough to overcome bad eating habits! I would go so far as to say if you could only do one and not the other than start with your diet first and get that under control because you will get the quickest and best results from eating healthy.

It’s kind of like having a high performance race car and putting the worst gas you can find in it, that car will run like crap. Take an average car and put top end gas in it and it will run like a champ all day long.

People need to stop making excuses about why they can not eat healthy or find time for exercise, I think most people could easily give up one PVR’d TV show a day and do a quick workout for their improved health. When it comes to the garbage food we all think is so tasty, get off it for a few weeks and you will find that lard and sugar filled snack you used to think was so yummy won’t taste as good as you remember. Your body knows what is good for it, you just need to help it remember by jogging it’s memory.

You have two choices, keep doing what you’re doing which is thinking about what you should be doing, or you can stopping thinking about it and do something about it! You don’t have to start big, start small and take baby steps, each day take bigger and bigger steps till soon you are running and never looking back!

Checkout these two videos that will help you with some of the first steps it takes to change and improve your life!

I lived that same life – 42 years old, 6′ 2", 235 lbs – finally hit rock bottom, unhappy and decided to do something about it.  Quit drinking beer, totally changed my diet, low to no sugar, very low carbs, tons of protein – my wife and family supported me in the diet change, they are doing it too.  1.5 years later, 200 lbs, 10% body fat and addicted to Crossfit.  It’s taken time and it was hard to be patient when I thought I wasn’t seeing results, but it’s a lifestyle change and it takes time to replace the bad habits with good habits, just have to stay the course.  Good things can and will happen to those who stick with it.

Diet is so important that it not only changes your body but your mind as well. Great Video! How’s the polar loop? They got it with the hardware now if they only work on the software lol. I would recommend the Vivofit for him because one start of change is awareness and just for the fact you don’t ever have to charge it. I am getting one for my father.

Great points Mike!  Especially the point you mentioned about eating McDonald’s right after your workout.  It’s not worth ones time and effort spent in the gym if the same emphasis, if not more isn’t placed on what we eat.  Mike

I used a juicing "reboot" plan to retrain my mouth and brain. At the end of the that week you feel accomplishment and full of energy. I also actually started craving healthy foods that I would have never eaten before. I then decided that I had to do something different than what I had been doing for so many years. I have gone up and down weight wise the largest part of my life. It wasn’t until I decided that I had to learn about nutrition until that cycle stopped. That hardest part became learning how to make healthy food other than chicken and salads! I’m down 60 lbs  through educating myself and now its time for the fitness section! Appreciate your style of channel Mike!

I just had a general basic question: What are thoughts on "Gastric Bypass surgery"? Many of my very obese friends want to get this done and I’m very concerned the dangers to this..

I rarely drink alcohol. Most men like their beer. You work at keeping fit, lean and healthy. What is your option on the subject and what is your weekly or monthly limit if you enjoy a few wobbly pops? BTW the videos are so informative they don’t seem long at all.
