One of the parts of the video that might spread a "dubious information" is when he says that a kid will learn ‘3 languages without an accent’ at 35:49

Maybe you were not clear enough with what’s the meaning of an "accent" for you.

But IMHO, accents are part of speaking a language. And cannot be "avoided"

I’ve always been picked in my own country for not having the "accent" of the region I was born and raised.

As I started learning english, I started to realise that I would either have to learn "Brittish english" or "American english" (Because we’re too f***** up in the brain to consider start aiming for an Australian, Jamaican or any other kind of English dialect and accent right?)

When I had the opportunity of going to the US,
I noticed all the shades of the language. (California, Kentucky, Michigan, Detroit) Blacks, Whites, 2nd generations of imigrants.
Many people started pointing out to me that I often sounded British. Which I do not, but sometimes according to them I would choose ‘british’ words like ‘sandals’. LOL

Now I’m in europe and nobody told me this, but I reckon myself to use a lot of "American english"

    THING IS,

The idea of a "neutral" or "non-existing" accent is REALLY REALLY REAAAAAALLLYYYYY BAD!

I might have chosen to pronounce words in the way I do because this is the material I have been mostly exposed to. (Raised up without the freedom to play freely with the other kids in the street)

Saying that the kid wouldn’t be distinguished from a native speaker would be a "better" way to put it.

In the end all "accents" just define the unique way a person expresses themselves using verbal language.

But people will use this shitty notion of "too much accent" to humiliate, make fun or make you feel like a lesser person.

Living in my third country and struggling to learn Spanish (which is similar to my mother language portuguese)
I really would like to see less of this in the world, as so much people refrain from learning a new language due to this mindset that seems so tribal and xenophobic!

If you have read it until here, congrats! You deserve a beer, coffeee or something that u like! 😀

Are there any interviews where Huberman acknowledges the value of spiritual fitness? Addiction is often healed by community and creating an inner spiritual life. This is why 12 step programs work. It gives people a sense of camaraderie and a future to build and work with in community. Not to mention the daily morning meditation and “prayer” or affirmations required in 12 steps programs by a sponsor. Looking forward to more. Awesome conversation between these two as always. 💜💙❤️

Plasticity concept is enlightening, however, most of what he’s saying inscribed within religion, especially Islam, such as the concept of gratitude and striving to better yourself.

  18. SleepNo More on June 10, 2022 at 11:29 pm

I wish he spoke about neuroplasticity in regards to treatment (or curing) various common psychopathologies. Especially since Western medicine so heavily relies on medication for treatment

Just watched this podcast and it was very interesting to hear about Andrew’s early life. While I haven’t become a neuroscientist, it’s amazing how much we have in common, besides our first name. I won’t go into a lot of detail, but I also did not attend high school very well, skipping literally half the classes. And yet I got A’s and B’s on all my tests (making the teachers mad), and I used to (and still do the equivalent today) read encyclopedias on many, many topics. Back in the 70’s that was my only choice, without the internet. I’m very science oriented(everything from the body, to physics, astronomy, electronics… a long list). Very fitness and health oriented. Have done martial arts most of my life (used to be a nationally ranked competitor), personal trainer. Ok, too much detail, but there’s even more I could relate to. Just came across Andrew a few months ago and have been listening. Great information.

5:26 in and I am bored out of my mind and irritated by how irrelevant all this feels. Don’t expect your audience to care enough to endure this. // ok thank god for time stamps. Now I’m at 26 mins giving this another chance.

  36. Jimmie Hammel on June 10, 2022 at 11:49 pm

I’ve always been the person who puts off tasks because they don’t "feel like it." I’d heard the advice before that "you’re never gonna feel like it" and "motivation comes from action." But it never really clicked until I listened to this podcast. Now, when I see a task that needs doing, I don’t give myself the space to whine about it in my head. I get up and fold my laundry right away, then give myself an internal pat on the back. "Nice. Good job not letting that basket of clean laundry wait. Look at your closet! It’s so neat now."
It feels a bit like I’m parenting my inner sulky teenager, but it’s working for me.

I wonder why certain people get addicted to specific substances. For instance, it baffles me how people become alcoholics. Alcohol doesn’t do anything for me, but makes me dehydrated and feel like shit. However, give me a bottle of Adderall and I won’t stop taking it until the bottle is gone.

Rich Roll and Andrew Huberman podcasts collabs are one of the view I want to actually watch the whole thing rather than just listen. It’s rare today to see two people with full facial expression, no botox, actual smiles, and full facial movement and participation with the conversation. It really adds something.
