Foods that claim to be sugar free basically have artificial sweeteners. Researchers have proved that artificial sweeteners especially aspartame increases hunger and cravings due to increased production of ghrelin hormone leading towards overeating.
So if you skipped calorie from diet soda but ate some other high caloric food due to uncontrolled cravings then there’s no point of drinking diet soda.

Diet soda is fine to consume once in a while but consuming it on regular basis can ruin your senses of satiety (feeling of fullness). Excess of everything is bad.
