Exercise Is Really Good for You. Like, REALLY Good for You.

Exercise Is Really Good for You. Like, REALLY Good for You.

What are the benefits of exercise? Is exercise all that good for you? Yes, yes, and yes. Studies overwhelmingly indicate that exercise has a LOT of benefits. I wrote a piece on exercise and weight for The New York Times a couple months ago, and I’m going to talk about that next week. But a lot of people took that column to mean that exercise isn’t important or helpful. That’s so wrong that I want to address that first. Exercise, and the good it can do you, is the topic of this week’s Healthcare Triage.

When you say Diabetes do you mean Type 1 Diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes? There’s a lot of confusion out here in the real world and it can be dangerous when we are not clear about the difference. Instead of just saying ‘Diabetes ‘ we can get into the habit of always saying ‘Type 1 Diabetes ‘or ‘Type 2 Diabetes ‘ .It’s easy to avoid dangerous confusion.

When the world gets super-serious about fossil fuel addiction, anthropogenic global warming (AGW), & ending the holocaust of factory farming, then I’ll believe your lies & myths funded by the diet industry & the medical industry about the so-called benefits of exercise.

This is so spot on. At the start of the Pandemic, I committed myself to 5000 steps a day (though I often did many more) and stuck with it. Result? My cholesterol levels and blood pressure have dropped down to "normal" levels, with absolutely no change in diet! 😉

Exercise is important, same with a great diet, both are vital for optimal health but if you are going to do only one of the two, definitely go with the diet

I know I’m a little slow on the draw with this comment… but I am a leukemia survivor who strongly advocates exercising during chemotherapy, based on my own personal experiences. Is there a citation to the study mentioned in the video that claims that exercise can improve fatigue in chemotherapy patients?

My sister laughed when I told them I was planning to lose fat with just using Okibetonic Secrets, but after I showed them awesome effects right after I used it they are begging me to tell them about it. Of course I won’t tell them the detail about this diet plan, lol

Dr. Carroll: Do you have a list of all the RCTs you’re summarizing? Doing research on the subject and would love to know what the studies actually are. Thanks so much for your insight, caring, and education!!!!

I love to exercise. I started increasing low impact cardio, but without slow warm up. I now have a repetitive injury in my knee. The goof news is there is no pain and my knees look normal. My orthopedist is having me do physical therapy. I hope to learn some things to help protect my knees.

  30. zerphase on February 1, 2023 at 7:00 am

Don’t have kids so I can work out 2 to 3 hours 6 days a week.

  31. logicOnAbstractions on February 1, 2023 at 7:02 am

The difference between "what you need " and those "over the top" program/training/exercise regiment is interesting.

I do agree that sometimes, this sets the bar way too high, and possibly discourages some people from even trying, because it’s far off from where they are at now.

That being said, I do think there some kind of an addictive nature to exercise. I for one have my current balance at at least 1 hour of moderate to vigorous exercise per day, on average. Running, yoga or rock climbing (or training for climbing). Of course I sometimes end up doing less, but life just feels better when I can push myself a little more, and it seems the ~1 hour is where that stands. I wouldn’t say it’s always been like that, though. My experience has been that it came with time and practice.

  32. Glennis Whitting on February 1, 2023 at 7:05 am

It would be a waste for you not to lose fat when other typical people are capable to shed extra pounds very easily using Custokebon Secrets (search on google).

  33. Candace Young on February 1, 2023 at 7:05 am

Facts!!!! I been working out 4/5 days a week.. both cardio/Strength/Calisthenics.. faithfully since I was 18.. 34 years later at 52.. I teach indoor cycling.. Weight training and personal trainer.

I work full time as well., I still get around like I am in my early 30s.. no health issues at all!! Plus I look 10 to 15 years younger than my age.. nothing better than fitness and good eating.

I love it.. can’t see my life without it!!!

  36. Tim Jung on February 1, 2023 at 7:06 am

Lots of claims about improvement, but it’s never stated by how much. A 1% improvement is still an improvement, but it’s insignificant.

Most the people I knew back in the day who did not exercise did drugs.Exercise makes you feel way better than drugs and your family is way more impressed with you and does not have to worry about you stealing stuff from them.😃

  41. Lou on February 1, 2023 at 7:10 am

I know you said the trials are randomized and all, but I don’t see how you could perform such studies without introducing some sort of survivorship bias.
I mean, evidently, the people with chronic health condition who reported an improvement after regular exercise, are among the ones who are even capable of doing regular exercise.

But what about people for which even simple exercise is too demanding ? How can you verify the supposed health benefits of exercise for them ?

I turn 60 this year. My left hip has already been replaced. It was so bad I couldn’t put my own socks on. Now I’m waiting to get my right knee replaced. There is NO F’ing way I’m continuing to walk 3 miles a day along wth yoga and dance like I used to. I think it is nuts to just make recommendations without reference to age and joint status. I just looked at the p90x list. I am not amused. First, I’d have to wear a sports bra that would totally cut off my circulation and second, it was weight lifting lunges (along with tripping over my puppy and falling on it) that destroyed my left hip. Enough already. I’d like to know how many of these people doing these crazy exercise programs are injuring themselves and negating any benefit. I’ve already seen 20 year olds getting knee and hip replacements due to stupidly intensive football training when they are teenagers.

The body adapts to any condition as well as sedentary behavior, and to readjust to the active state takes years and hurts. This is where those who succeed are separated from those who fail.
