"evolutionarily we were not designed to be sitting" – which is it, evolution or design? Even evolutionists believe in intelligent design apparently. It’s almost like we instinctively know we were designed!

  3. Andruw on March 15, 2023 at 9:36 am

A sedentary lifestyle is not just sitting. You can still be sedentary while standing all day as well. The difference between sedentary vs active is less than 45 minutes of daily exercise plus daily activities vs 2 hours of daily exercise plus daily activities

  4. Judgmental Smile on March 15, 2023 at 9:37 am

I just learned about a sedentary life style and now think I may just stand rather than sit forever. 🥲

  5. DUCKIE on March 15, 2023 at 9:37 am

Please. I no longer trust ANYTHING THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY SAYS. I boxed for 14 years and I’m old and sit all the time now, BUT I CAN GO 13 rounds on the heavy bag and hit the speed bag for hours.

Just because you gym doesn’t mean you have good cardiovascular health. I’ve been doing strength training enough but I feel only getting stronger not energetic since Stamina isn’t there. Being active throughout the day can’t be replaced and LISS Cardio is better for gen pop imho.

notice it says "may not"….I remember studies and doctors saying there is no cure for diabetes. Untrue…. Low carb, no sugar….. within 48 hrs you can adjust your meds, and eventually most get off all meds.

A friend of mine learnt human body for a decade and came to decision that physical training destroys human body after older ages. For instance blood vessels or joints may break a part.

My mother died of breast cancer and was overweight most of my childhood. My father died of advanced diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. Both were very sedentary, both suffered from depression and slept a LOT. I remember feeling sad as a kid that they couldn’t run around with me, that we’d go camping and just sit there. We didn’t do things together, they watched me do them. I decided young that I didn’t want to repeat that pattern, but as a naturally skinny person i was told I didn’t have to exercise and wasn’t taught to be active. I realized this past year that it was part of my identity to not be athletic or active. I didn’t believe I could do it. I decided to change that, starting with yoga. I started cross country skiing, hiking, drinking more water and not drinking coffee. I feel so much better. Hopefully I will live a longer and healthier life than my folks and break the cycle.

It’s frustrating when you’re active and doing all the right things and then you have the people you care about deciding to stay at home all day when they already have health problem after health problem. They don’t f cking realize how much they’re killing themselves and making it unlikely for them to get out of their own hole.

As a student, I just got a standing desk, which made me somtimes walk around, think while walking, stand up. I also do more daily tasks, such as cleaning my room, the kitchen etc… so rather than watching and in bed doing nothing, i move while watching the shows.

  18. Orphic Polytheist on March 15, 2023 at 9:58 am

I am a broke fat guy, so at summer I couldn’t afford air conditioner. To keep myself as cool as possible, I decided to move as less as possible. I was literally lying on the bed all day every day for most of the summer. Oh how stupid I was. Now I get exhausted by walking short distances, and my muscles are so weak, if I sit for a couple hours, my lower back muscle gets awfully aching, so much I can barely stand up. My muscles are so weak, they feel the kind of pain bodybuilders get, by just doing simple everyday things. 😔

  19. 1EuroChair on March 15, 2023 at 9:58 am

The body adapts to any condition as well as sedentary behavior, and to readjust to the active state takes years and hurts. This is where those who succeed are separated from those who fail.

  20. Vegan Rican1 on March 15, 2023 at 9:58 am

Being a bus driver destroyed my body, in the process of changing departments cause of my back problems. Slowly rebuilding my body now and it’s definitely a challenge.

Bus drivers are typically old and/or overweight which fits all of her descriptions… seems like some biased research to just throw on TV.

  24. Snowforest on March 15, 2023 at 10:02 am

Sitting all day everyday is so bad for your health.

  25. Donna on March 15, 2023 at 10:03 am

So if you’ve been sedentary (not me), but those that have.. Did she say it couldn’t be reversed? I was trying to listen well, but I think that’s what she said.

  26. Emily Greene on March 15, 2023 at 10:04 am

Try telling that to people who have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or HCM and those who have dropped dead while doing even mild exercise – such as walking or going on treadmills on easy. Apparently, this cardiologist doesn’t like to mention those people though it is a serious and life-threatening condition as well. – https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/639213/

"Exercise not enough to undo harms of sedentary lifestyle".. so I am in my early sixties and have led a sedentary life, so it’s over for me? If exercise isn’t enough, all hope is lost?

  36. Robert Long on March 15, 2023 at 10:13 am

this is an oxymoron, you can’t be sedentary if you’re exercising. i define exercising as at least 5 sessions of workout a week lasting 90-120 minutes.

  37. Plagueheart on March 15, 2023 at 10:14 am

Too much of anything is bad for you, moderation. Even standing prolonged hours can do the same as sitting such as blood clots the science is there as well

I counteract this by hitting atleast 8 to 10k steps daily while still lifting 3 days a week.

  40. disabled Dave on March 15, 2023 at 10:16 am

If you sit on a bike and exercise does that count as sitting?

  41. Floral Fancy on March 15, 2023 at 10:18 am

I’m worried I’ve ruined my health and my life, I just spend so much time lying down on my bed on my laptop, because its a huge comfort zone for me when I feel safe, I’m scared of leaving the house sometimes.

  42. disabled Dave on March 15, 2023 at 10:20 am

With my disability, I guess I should crawl into a hole and have someone shovel dirt on me.

Asians (and Slavs) have the perfect solution- we squat more if we get tired standing..which is healthier than sitting..
