Health and Wellness Centers: Learnings from MCSP India

From March 2015 through September 2019, USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) has worked in India to strengthen family planning, adolescent health, and health and wellness centers.

MCSP’s work has included promoting the expansion of the current basket of contraceptives available in India and strengthening the provision of quality family planning services delivered through the public health system in five states of India. Furthermore, the National Technical Support Unit- Adolescent Health (NTSU-AH) has worked to improve adolescent health by providing support for the design and roll-out of newer adolescent health initiatives proposed by the Government of India as well as supporting the implementation of the National Adolescent Health Program (Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram) and the School Health Program under ‘Ayushman Bharat’. MCSP has also provided technical assistance for strengthening delivery of comprehensive primary health care through operationalization of health and wellness centers and creation of sustainable training ecosystems in twelve focus states.
