How to get healthy without dieting | Darya Rose | TEDxSalem

Darya discusses how psychology impacts our ability to create healthy eating habits. Darya is a neuroscientist, author and popular blogger who has trained her sights and talents on solving the age-old problem of eating healthy and losing weight.

Her holistic approach to food and health is a breath of fresh air compared to the stuffy supermarket shelves of diet shakes and appetite suppressants.

After receiving her BA in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, Darya received her PhD from UC San Francisco and writes about food, health and weight loss. Her website ‘Summer Tomato’ was one of TIME’s top 50 websites in 2011 and if social media is any indicator, her message that “life should be awesome” is reaching far and wide.

Darya describes herself as a “foodist”, which is a term for someone who has abandoned dieting to enjoy life using real food and also the name of her book – Foodist: Using Real Food and Real Science to Lose Weight Without Dieting.

    I have tried this several times. The only thing is I related to it most of the time as a diet. There was one time I actually related to this as only habits and it was successful until I thought I had to get leaner and more fit (I already looked good!) and went on a diet. A very strict one. It only lasted a week. I haven’t been able to get back into that mindset, and it’s been a year and a half. 😔

    A cellular pathway in the brain is stimulated that makes us think of hunger; to suppress the brain cells that make us think of hunger is to drink half teaspoon of ginger in hot water–the size of a regular cup of coffee. Scientifically proven. I just hate hunger and did some research, yep, it works.

    I really loved watching this as I always want to stay fit but not compromising my love for Food. People always tell me to do some exercise and Dieting but I can’t listen to them as I do what makes me happy. But, still i was always curious that there must be a solution for people like me, as it is a fact that no problem comes without solution, so as mine. Using internet for years and searching such things about how to stay fit even after eating a lot, even google started to give me weird replies.     Honestly guys cut out caffeine and sugar and see how your body changes. It’s incredible….I mean you can still keep your sugary drinks but cut out any food that has sugar including fruit and after a couple of months or so you reinclude it after sometime.

    I knew which foods I need to eat to lose weight, but I didn’t know how much. Diet plan I got from Agoge Diet contains portion sizes for every meal. Fantastic!

    i think this is the best advice related to eating that i’ve ever heard. i’ve struggled with my relationship with food since i was 13 and i’m trying so hard to change that. this video helps so much!!
