42:06 summary of first impressions

This is the Sunny bike model SF B1002 I purchased on Amazon for $380.99 and in today’s video I’m going to be unboxing it, building it, and giving you my first impressions on this budget friendly sunny bike. This is not a fully Sunny Bike review, but that will be coming soon as I spend more time of the Sunny Fitness B1002. As you can see here I also have several other indoor cycling bikes and I will be comparing the sunny bike head to head against in future videos as well as giving a more thorough review of this bike as I spend more time on it after this sunny bike assembly.

This sunny bike sb1002/c comes standard a massive high quality 49 lb flywheel, and I got this bike with the belt drive train instead of the chain drive option because belt drives are better, quieter, and require less maintenance. This budget friendly peloton alternative indoor cycling bike is extremely popular in the indoor cycling bike community and many people choose to use this bike as a peloton alternative setup because of it’s good bones and since it doesn’t have a screen, or any electronics for that matter, it frees you up to use the peloton digital app or whatever fitness app you’d like, and of course it has a very budget friendly price of just $380 at the time I bought it, however, I put a link below this video in the description box so you can check the current price, shipping time and availability if you’re interested in buying this bike on Amazon like I did.

Things that are different about this peloton alternative indoor cycling bike compared to other bikes I’ve purchased and reviewed is this bike is really a bare bones package bringing indoor cycling back to the basics. Unlike many bikes this sunny bike does not have magnetic resistance, instead it uses leather pad friction resistance, and it also does not have any electronics at all, which means you will not be getting your cadence or resistance level feedback metrics, or any other metrics for that matter, unless you attach additional equipment such as the Wahoo Cadence sensor, which I did order on amazon for about $40 and ironically a 100 oz electronic sensor is taking several more days to ship than the 100 pound bike took to arrive, which for me took 3 days from click to delivery.

So why would you buy such a basic and barebones machine like the sunny bike sf b1002 when you can get other bikes at the same price point with a lot more features, electronics, and metrics, like the $385 ProForm tour de france with digital magnetic resistance along with a cadence sensor and the ability to connect a heart rate monitor and many other features, or the $399 Joroto X2 which also has magnetic resistance, and a screen to give you feedback on your metrics as well, or the well known and loved $500 Echelon bike.

These are the big questions and in this video I’ll be unboxing sunny bike assembly and taking a closer look at the highly reputable build quality of the Sunny bike and see how it stacks up against other indoor cycling bikes in the same price point as well as bikes that cost MUCH more money. I hope I can provide some useful insight opening this bike up and building the sunny bike assembly and giving you my thoughts and opinions on this sunny bike.

    Best bike for a beginner?

  2. Eric Muncy on November 4, 2021 at 11:36 am

Awesome reviews! I appreciate all the time you put I to give such great info.

I had a question about the clicking noise I’m the video as you pedaled, did it actually turn out to be the straps hitting? The reason I ask is because a major complaint about Sunny bikes are the bearings being damaged and causing a clicking noise and or grinding. I’ve been leary about pulling the trigger die to this.

Dude do you buy these spine bikes to review or the companies provide them to review and return them afterwards? Im just curious.

  4. fazzystyles on November 4, 2021 at 11:37 am

Hello! Thank you so much for the amazing review! I recently purchased this bike and I still have mixed feelings about it. It is a solid bike, but….. I feel like when I run standing up it moves side to side (doesn’t feel steady) which I didn’t even experience with my $170 bike I had. I made sure everything is screwed in tightly as well. Any suggestions or I might just have to return it 🙁

  5. Mike Shapiro on November 4, 2021 at 11:38 am

Thank You for all the reviews. I want to get into indoor cycling. After watching your reviews I’m either going with the Sunny or the Eschelon Connect Sport. Which do you think is better?

  6. Chris101209 on November 4, 2021 at 11:38 am

Just bought this bike. Is it possible to upgrade it to magnetic resistance?

  7. Kevin Huff on November 4, 2021 at 11:39 am

  8. Mohammad Mukhtar on November 4, 2021 at 11:42 am

Hi there! Have you ever created a conversion chart between the Sunny 1002 and the Peloton? Trying to get a feel but I don’t think one full turn on the Sunny knob equals an increase of 10 for Peloton.

  9. Veronica Giles on November 4, 2021 at 11:42 am

I bought this bike a year ago right before the pandemic went down ironically. It has been amazing. It lived on our back patio for the first 6 months because the weather was nice and we enjoyed spinning outside. We have since transformed our garage to a gym and I spin in there. I use the wahoo cadence and the peloton app.

I was in the middle of my workout this morning just getting into my rhythm and I’m pretty sure my belt just broke. Move my feet wheel doesn’t move. Any tips where to buy new belt?

I love your channel, and happy I came across it; you got a subscription from me! I am looking into getting a sunny indoor bike, and so many options to choose from, and I have watched all your reviews, and they are very descriptive. Can I ask you which sunny bike would be your top pick? Price isn’t a hindrance, and getting a good workout is the priority.
I hope to hear from you,
    Susie

Hi, Matt. The current pricing right now is $334.99. Awesome! I have a question. Did you determine exactly what that clicking sound was for sure? I’ve been leaning towards the 1805, but I’m a bit bummed by the fact that Amazon has raised the price by $140. Sunny sells it for $629.00, but unfortunately, it’s out of stock. Matt, if I do purchase one that you have reviewed and have a link for, I will purchase through your link, because you do a great job reviewing them for us all. Much mahalo!!

  18. CytivaDiva on November 4, 2021 at 11:54 am

Thanks for all the informative reviews. I’m only 5’2" (best I can tell a 28 inch inseam in socks. I have a feeling the sunny bikes are too tall for me. While not extremely competitive. I took skinny classes in multiple gyms for many years, so I do have a good sense of how the bike should fit and feel as opposed to newbie who might not have a reference to compare. Im probably overthinking this purchase but want to get it right the first time. Any recommendations based on my height/inseam?

I just ordered this bike now. (I used your link, I hope it helps you out!)
And, your reviews are very helpful. Thank you!

  25. Autumn Brooks on November 4, 2021 at 12:02 pm

The bike has 4.4 stars on Amazon right now. It seems like long term the bike can start breaking down. I’d love to get this bike, but I don’t know if I can trust it long term. Is this just how it is with any bike?

  26. Dennis Bookwalter on November 4, 2021 at 12:02 pm

Just bought one. Looks very much like the older Schwinn the YMCA has. Really liked them for their simplicity. Can’t wait to get it and get spinning! Thanks for the review!

  29. Ryan Rattray on November 4, 2021 at 12:04 pm

Hi looking to get a bike was looking at one of these or one with Magnetic resistance. Should I spend $200 more for it?

  30. Alex 1407 on November 4, 2021 at 12:05 pm

It would be so amazing to buy the Echelon for that price in the EU / Germany…. puhh what should i choose instead?

  31. Aaron Arther on November 4, 2021 at 12:07 pm

Hello, I appreciate you taking the time to do these reviews. I was looking for a good, sturdy, quality bike with superior quality. I just had knee surgery looking to get back into stuff after falling off and Covid-19 closing my previous gym. I don’t think it’s a good idea to run but, want to use my time off to get back into something. I work a lot so once I return if I’m not starting it’ll likely be pushed off once again. Any suggestions to add to this bike or a routine?! Thanks!!

  32. gongshowed17 on November 4, 2021 at 12:08 pm

Got one through the link, thanks for the review!

  33. bigmac on November 4, 2021 at 12:09 pm

Sooooo many choices!! All I want is magnetic resistance, a display of speed, distance, calories and the like. Good adjustments on seat and handlebars. Something that mimics a true outdoor roadbike. Any suggestions? Oh and around to $350 ish range.

  34. Timothy Lim on November 4, 2021 at 12:09 pm

Unfortunately, this bike has.serious design/manufacturing problem. While I don’t know the names of the parts, the problem is that the gears holding the belt slowly move out of alignment, with no easy way to get them back into alignment. This has happened twice. The first time, I had the bike only two months, but Amazon replaced it for free. The second time, it took 10 months, but it was essentially the same problem. To make matters worse, Sunny has a measly 180 parts+labor warranty, so once the bike broke after a mere 10 months, I was out of luck. Plus, Sunny’s customer service is absolutely terrible. If you use the bike very lightly, it may last for a few years. However, if several people in your family use the bike everyday, plan on it breaking down in less than a year.

  35. Henry ZZZ on November 4, 2021 at 12:12 pm

Great video! It is very detailed and helps a lot! Any plan to do a review of the sunny 1805?

  36. Shelby M on November 4, 2021 at 12:14 pm

I’ve been watching your videos all week to make an informed decision before buying my first bike, you have no idea how tremendously helpful you are. Thank you 🙏🏻

  37. Wpg Knight on November 4, 2021 at 12:16 pm

I have ordered this bike based in your reviews, but I want to be able to put a cell phone or iPad holder on it. What would you recommend?

  38. Thomas Kahnert on November 4, 2021 at 12:18 pm

I am in Canada and the bike cost $582.53 plus tax from Amazon. It seems the price has been raised during the pandemic. Do you still think this is a good bike at that price point?

  39. bigjune5000 on November 4, 2021 at 12:19 pm

Is the warranty through Amazon worth getting?

  40. Indygreg71 on November 4, 2021 at 12:21 pm

    Great review!

if this bike fits you, its a nice deal. Solid and cheap. I had one. But the fore aft of the handlebars is a big deal, especially since this one is really forward IMHO. I am only 5’10" but long torso and it is too far forward for me (I am a road bike rider and me fitted to a 55cm bike is at least 3 inches shorter than this bar.
And the height adjustment for both seat and bar – the gaps are too spaced.

  41. Diego garcia on November 4, 2021 at 12:22 pm

I prefer sunny B1877, magnetic resistance, belt drive, 29lb, and heart rate measurement

  42. Michael Luong on November 4, 2021 at 12:23 pm

  47. SUPER on November 4, 2021 at 12:31 pm

I spent years of my life mountain biking and after being hit by a car and some other things like flat tires and chains breaking I want to go back to it but would like to control my environment more and indoor cycling seems to be the way. I’ve been searching and searching for a bike that isn’t 3 grand but quality and Idc about bluetooth or any of that because I just go off how I feel physically (If you’re dripping sweat and in pain you know you’ve burned enough calories) and one that has high resistance and here it is! Thank you thank you!

  50. Damon Barber on November 4, 2021 at 12:32 pm

Hey boss, thanks for the review. If you were to connect the Sunny bike and connect it to Zwift, what sensors would you use? The Wahoo Cadence sensor only? or Would you use a cadence speed sensor with the wire that connects them, and the two magnets? Thanks.
