How interesting to watch a talk given six years ago. Recent research suggests that saturated fats as well as sodium is not a problem, whereas vegetable oils apart from olive and coconut are really bad choices.

How knowledge moves forward, some good Info but alot of dogma that has been highlighted years on. Def government is years behind science. Alot of bad food industry studies, extrapolating in an Ancel keys like way.

  10. Richard Atkinson on October 15, 2021 at 9:41 am

Can you imagine the stupidity it takes to claim that fiber, a completely unnecessary non-nutrient, is “the most important nutrient?” Sadly, this kind of pseudoscience is peddled by ignorant doctors like this who I’m guessing haven’t bothered to watch Dr. Mason’s lectures. Almost everything in this video is wrong.

  11. Scott W on October 15, 2021 at 9:42 am

This is junk science reference after junk science reference. For example fiber, it does not resolve IBS, constipation etc in high volume and on the only RCT worth mentioning on the topic of fiber they found a direct relationship to dose amounts of fiber in the diet and resolution to those issues.

This is that the lower the amount of fiber in the diet the more resolution or complete removal of the issues. There was even a 6 month follow up of those who took part in this RCT with those who continued to follow a low to no fiber diet finding either more resolution or remaining at the resolution they had during the RCT and those remaining at higher fiber diets (mostly for ideological reasons) still had those issues from the start of the RCT.

    Disappointed by the comments.
    – Fats and oils when used /only for cooking/ and not used generously are OK. Jesus. Using a dab of canola oil to grill your chicken is not gonna kill you.
    – Fiber has shown to be great for the microbiome, especially compared to refined carbs.
    – Eggs are a fantastic source of choline, very important for brain health, and you probably are deficient in choline. ( Egg whites are a great source of protein and can be added to all sorts of foods).
    – Calcium supplements likely aren’t sufficient for non-dairy eaters. Milk is your best bet for calcium.( But there are other ways)
    – For those referring to eating certain carbs and glucose level spikes, you’re probably right. However unless you slap CGMs on people, you’re never going to know for sure how something will spike your blood glucose. Whole grain foods /tend/ to reduce glycemic loads and have (although often times marginally) more fiber than refined carbs.

The very generalized advice in this is pretty spot on. A lot of you are nitpicking the generalized advice. Veggies, lean meat, not refined carbs, alcohol in moderation, all sound like fair generalized advice to me…

Whoa! That’s crazy. I went vegan ( Whole Foods plant based) and lowered my cholesterol from 229 to 174. Don’t tell me eggs are part of a heart healthy diet. They just aren’t.

This dr. Dr. Robert Baron is paid of by Monsanto Bayer producer of Round UP and large industrial food processing companies. Our system can not process GMO sugar and GMO oils. We have to go back to agro multicultural and natural fertilizers.

Scientists are the experts right? We’ve been literally fed garbage GMOs, by these same experts and look at us. We are all fat. The majority of Americans are clinically obese because of these experts. It’s the same with COVID-19. This is brain fornication so to speak. And now Americans are pregnant with liberalism; AKA greed envy strife bitterness hate confusion homelessness joblessness. In short, Americans have given birth to fat weak selfish spoiled rotten hypocrites, with faith that is based on bank accounts and “likes”, popularity and fame. It’s no wonder that the USA is not present in The Book of Revelation when everyone else is! Consider! What you believe does not change fact but surely decides your destination in the afterlife. Not to worry though. Your destination is your hearts desire. God knows who you are and who you are not!🙏🔑✌️

The government’s guidelines kept us from eating eggs for years. Now they recommend eating eggs. It is hard to believe what they’re recommending now.

  27. JDARJISJ on October 15, 2021 at 10:00 am

Waste of time. I clicked to see him talk about the science behind the health of fiber in the diet and make some recommendations about good, high fiber foods. From comments he made in the first few minutes I was hopeful he might get into what fiber sources would fit best with high carb or high fat diets. There is disappointingly little of value.

He took more time in his introductory comments that the whole talk was worth. He clearly worships at the alter of government nutrition recommendations and sounds like he may be on the committee that writes them. Most of the talk is pretty much boilerplate talking points with the same lousy advice that has gotten us into this obesity epidemic. It is insane to think we can say the same things over and over again and change the direction of weight gain in this country and throughout the world.

This talk had promise but failed to live up to it and was a waste of time.

  28. Julie Joseph on October 15, 2021 at 10:02 am

This is insane. Veg or a vegan whole food plant based is the only way to go. No oils. Not even olive oil. They are very inflaming. All Vit and minerals are very important. Dairy is out. We are not cows!

Why do these so-called experts almost uniformly ignore vitamin K2? In parts of Japan where K2 intake is high, there are very few hip fractures among post-menopausal women, but in areas of Japan where K2 intake is very low (like in the USA), hip fractures among post-menopausal women are comparable to in USA, that is, fairly common. Almost nobody talks about K2 when they recommend vitamin D and calcium to post-menopausal women. K2 is necessary to move the calcium into the bone matrix and to keep it out of the soft tissues like the coronary arteries.

Old information. LDL no longer leads to cardiovascular disease but actually leads to longevity. New studies on statins as well and you don’t need them unless you have a genetic reason. Eat animal fat and protein. You don’t need as much fiber either because it just comes out as waste. This whole talk is soooooo outdated

Very informative. I do not see him endorsing the new guidelines, just sharing them. Check out some of the presentations on The Microbiome. More great information in a video called "Food is Thy Medicine" Not everyone has the same gut microbiome, and therefore different foods have different effects on people. Lets say what happens if we have perfect bowel movements without any or extremely low fiber in our diets? Do we still need fiber? That is the question.

  50. Alex Bajan on October 15, 2021 at 10:25 am

Dr. Dr. Robert Baron You are 100% incorrect that all sugars are the same. Bee Honey from the multiculture and NOT from GMO areas and not Monsanto Bayer Round Up has essential enzymes which they help human organism to metabolize food and helps people with diabetic II. Our brain Neorons need good fat since they bare build from fat. Problem is processed food and monoculture large industrial agriculture which is killing people.
