This Shoulder Exercise Is LEGIT
Upright rows get a bad rap when it comes to shoulder exercises to include in your delt workout. However, as long as you perform this deltoid exercise (it also hits the traps effectively) properly, it can be safely added into your shoulder workouts. If you want to build bigger shoulders with upright rows while protecting your rotator cuffs, then make sure to follow the 3 tips outlined in this video. This muscle building exercise certainly isn’t mandatory in order to build shoulder muscles, but it is quite effective as an addition to your shoulder training when done properly.

Why not just OH press and lateral raise?
I’ve always performed these with an Olympic bar with no weight and pulled all the way up to my face while keeping the elbows above the hands. Never had an issue.

To have very good internal rotation rom
You are pulling the weight starting in internal rotation, the weight can then pull those rotators if you are not careful

NO BS movements had to ditch free weights for chest press due to right shoulder pain when lifting heavy dumbells. Machines do good for me just applying progressive overload😁

The issue with it is if you have a limited range of motion due to torn ligament or rotator issues you may not be able to align your elbow with your shoulder
The main reason the upright row has been dubbed “bad” by many, is because of its supposed connection to shoulder impingement syndrome. The though is combing shoulder elevation with internal rotation puts the shoulder in an “impingement” position.
However shoulder impingement as a diagnosis has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent years and may not be a cause of pain in the shoulder

I see people talk a lot about pinching. I only have my dumbells does pinching come more from the bar and the wrists?? And if i do it with dumbells should i open my chest up at the top or should i move them sideways like a side curl going from horizontal to more vertical dumbells at my chest. I heard this is one of the most pinching exercises. But shoulder presses arent doing it anymore and i wanna work the mid delt more without doing flies with my heavy dumbells bc ik you don’t wanna ego lift flies but all I have are my one dumbell set.
I can’t do that it hurts my shoulder I get a sharp pain

I use dumbells since that’s all I have at home, but i heard it was still safe as long as you did it properly. I thought elbows were actually supposed to go higher than shoulders , I’ll keep them level from now on.

Great, cool adjustments! Still I avoid cable machines haha. I’ve seen some terrible accidents from breaking cables and we already have two broken cable machines in my gym right now😂
