We live in a post industrial revolution world and we are exposed to so many chemicals and polutants even in the womb. These fads don’t get down to the core issue a lot of the lots of the problems and many things can be done to get our body in balance and we might have to do a lot of things over a long period of time. We are all different so there isn’t a one size protocol although there are general steps that have to be taken like helping the liver and other detox pathways. Yes we do have to do more to detox as we often live in polluted cities and ours foods get cross contaminated.

I like how critical people are being of wellness trends because the fact is most young people are pretty healthy and don’t need them. But please don’t let the pendulum swing too far in the other direction because some of us actually do have diagnosed chronic conditions and part of our regime to avoid flare ups is drinking "exotic" herb teas and avoiding common delicious foods. I know lots of people on the internet like to take constructive criticism to the extreme so just remember y’all don’t know everyone’s story.

Back a few months ago I was going through what I think was depression and panic attacks almost every day so I thought to get better I had to become “that girl” in the long run it made me so much worse. It destroyed my confidence and self esteem. This trend is genuinely harmful I like to do yoga and work out but not at 5 in the morning with my healthy beautiful breakfast and perfect body.

  4. Adam Leckius on January 1, 2023 at 3:12 am

Omg.. I’m so glad I’m not a woman lol, this all seems unbearably stressful (okay there are male counterparts but they’re easy to ignore)

  5. Sarcodon Blue on January 1, 2023 at 3:12 am

There are foods that are not good for you and should only be eaten occasionally. It isn’t a moral judgement on people’s characters at least it shouldn’t be. Who cares what someone’s else who doesn’t know it care about you thinks? There are foods that are nutritious that we need to eat every day.

  6. mckamy on January 1, 2023 at 3:13 am

I’m so tired of seeing these wellness videos on my Instagram and I’ve tried really hard to change the algorithm but it keeps recommending me ‘what I eat in a day’ videos or ‘that girl’ content

  7. Mathilde G on January 1, 2023 at 3:15 am

Social media’s view of health is very one-dimensional. There is way more to health than pilates and green smoothies.
I also think we’ve become very disconnected from a sense of community in this society and that is also making us sick and unhappy.

  8. Rachael Grig on January 1, 2023 at 3:16 am

It’s good and important to take care of yourself but with all of this, "that girl" is honestly too much. like do you know how EXPENSIVE all that stuff is?? not all of us are billionaires. I feel like It really just makes some people feel like cr@p when they are not as "Healthy and put together" as these influencers, But no hate to any of them its just my opinion.

When I started weight loss journey back in 2018, my mom refused to give me money for gym (i was in college, so no money of myself) she said to loose weight with the food you have at home and go running in the park nearby. I kid you not this whole "wellness" wasn’t an aesthetic back then (I suppose) and I lost 20 kgs in 2 years with literally eating normal home made food and self exercise. These "aesthetic" products are just money market. Plus no hate, but these incense sticks and crystals and maalas are used since ages in india and was always mocked and suddenly every one started using this (its great m, but it should not be just used as aesthetic purposes)

  11. Eliza Andreadaki on January 1, 2023 at 3:18 am

I am someone who practices modern magick/witchcraft (no, not satanism or the like…) And about crystals: sure they have their own properties but to receive you shall also give. Buying them and placing them isn’t enough. You need to charge them with energy, you need to bond with them, carry some (tiny ones ofc) around depending on what you wish to bring into your life that day etc. I could go on for a while. Ofc, not everyone believes in the practice of witchcryand that’s okay. It’s not a religion exactly unless you work with deities. You can be atheist and practice witchcraft or you could be Christian (like myself) and practice witchcraft. It’s just a practice between you and nature, a relationship of give and take that helps you alter your own reality through the help of nature. That said, most of the wellness videos take elements from witchcraft out of context and add insane claims about those elements (like crystals) and feed into the pseudoscience. Using crystals you can attract health and protection BUT the crystals can’t be your sole remedy. You’re still meant to go to a doctor and take care of yourself using medicine prescribed to you. Stuff like this is honestly a huge stain in the practice because people exploit it to sell items, undermining its true purpose and intention. The only thing I wanted to add to all things you said. It’s basically that we all make half – assed efforts and think we can just buy our success instead of putting in the work and time. That’s not true. Not with crystals, not with exercise programs, not with diets, not with equipment, not anything. It’s about how you will USE those that SUIT YOU as a person to improve your life.

  12. meg a on January 1, 2023 at 3:20 am

In my opinion, the way how this type of videos are perceived is more about the people watching, the content creator might just want to share their way of living their lives, not necessarily a bad thing and it’s not like their intentions are to make people feel bad about themselves for not living the way they do, this is just like the "that girl" phenomenon. But then again everyone has a different ways to perceive things and different ways of living

Two years ago I started working out and eating healthy, it did make me feel awesome because I felt so proud about how much discipline I put into my daily life. It almost makes me feel
Jealous that a lot of girls are jumping into this trend without really caring about it. I worked hard for my self and I find it unfair that now it’s something so easy to achieve because everyone wants to have it.

  15. Rachel on January 1, 2023 at 3:22 am

‘Wellness’ is just a capitalist trend. It’s just to make other people think we have our 💩 together

  16. ArtsyAdara on January 1, 2023 at 3:22 am

that girl videos arent bad, its just girls making videos about basically some yummy food or workout, they dont say anything, its just you who thinks OMg bla bla bla

  17. WrinkleinTime42 on January 1, 2023 at 3:24 am

So much about “self care” that we don’t think enough about community care … yeah caring about yourself matters, but it’s weird how egotistical these movements have become.
What happened to caring for others and others caring for you? I am all for finding ways to care for ourselves !! But it’s sad that this individualism makes it feel like we can’t rely on others or be there for others in our efforts to be healthy. Capitalism sure loves isolating us in our our ego bubbles 🥴

  19. 简澜 on January 1, 2023 at 3:29 am

I am not that obsessed, yet I think eating regularly on time is still important, it gives a regular time for liver to rest. And our dietary has become not so healthy that we could balance ourselves, because there is too much sugar in everything (that’s not our fault, that’s government’s responsibility), so I eat less trying to limit the sugar, as I could eat a pot of food in one meal which is bit devastating to my body.

  22. Francini Retana on January 1, 2023 at 3:31 am

The crystal industry has to be the most lucrative industry💀 like you mean to tell me this pretty rock will heal me from generational trauma? Or when a crystal is targeted as “really rare!” And yet miraculously there’s enough of those crystals to go around to everyone who desires one for a cheap price. Idk it just seems exploitive to me but that’s just my opinion

  25. guess who on January 1, 2023 at 3:33 am

I think there is something to be said about Oriental philosophies and traditional medicinal practices. I found Ayurveda to be very inspirational in viewing health as something attainable for everyone, looking for ways to find balance keeping in mind our natural tendencies. Some people tend to be thinner and their mind is all over the place, so they should seek out ways to ground themselves, do relaxing forms of physical activity (like yoga) and eat sweet and salty things, while others have a tendency to be more round and soft and lethargic, so they need endurance, steady-paced training, and others benefit more from intense but short workouts to align with their body’s nature. I loved this approach. But have not spent A DIME. I researched on my own. Saw lectures on YouTube about this topic, and took those guidelines in consideration when planning my physical activity and balancing my mind and body depending on what I need. As a Westerner, I do not expect nor intend to live by Ayurvedic teachings because I know fully well anything outside of Sri Lanka will be a mere imitation of a way of life very different from my own. The ingredients and foods they suggest have nothing in common with what is readily accessible around me, and do not make much sense because the context is so different. I think it’s a good idea to be curious about other forms of wellness and keeping healthy, but everything must be considered thinking critically of what that actually entails in our own personal contexts. Being aware of consumerism, marketing strategies, and everything wrong in this sick late capitalist world we live in is key to not contract any more illness. Capitalism does not want us well, because then the wellness industry would not make a profit. Plain and simple.

  26. Katerina Sushko on January 1, 2023 at 3:36 am

In reality wellness doesn’t have to cost that much and involve people signing up to endless wellness coaching programs and drinking kombucha daily lol
P.s. I was blown away when I tried kombucha for the first time and realized that’s what my Russian-Ukranian grandma forced me to drink as a kid 😅 but we didn’t have a fancy marketing for it.

  30. muskan manwani on January 1, 2023 at 3:40 am

Thank you for talking about how yoga is being perceived by the west. In india we have a very different meaning behind yoga it is our pride like the number zero and we are made to do it every week at school with very different connotations to it here

  31. Sharon Marie on January 1, 2023 at 3:40 am

In my opinion from years of experience and observations with such topic
I would say that healthy diet is important but not to deprive yourself or over indulge
I would say exercise is important but not to over do it
If you have an issue with your appearance than that is something internal needing to be worked out
I believe it all begins with a healthy mind set which I understand more than ever how hard that can be when surrounded by such toxic people
It’s okay and great to be positive but not to the point to where it is toxic and we ignore our problems
It’s okay to want to be healthy and fit but when we compare ourselves to other people we can begin to feel worse
Sometimes we just need a break from social media to enjoy our lives and stop comparing because I too have done this and it only made me worse
There is a good side to health and wellness with so many benefits and there is a toxic side that people fall into
Love the video though and hiw you explained things😊

  33. Marco on January 1, 2023 at 3:41 am

You don’t need to be perfect or have a 100% healthy lifestyle, however, some of the people making fun of healthy habits on tik tok really show that they know nothing about exercise and nutrition (or ethics or anything in general). For example, it really is a lot better to cook with olive oil, and to choose plant milk and the veggie burger over the cow milk and meat burger.

My wellness practice is literally taking a bath. I’ve always taken a bath once a week and when I was in high school during exams, the bath became my safe space.
I’d be stressed out, feel bad about myself for a whole week. But on sunday evening, I had my bath time. The exams on monday were always the most stressful ones, so I’d be so stressed out the whole weekend learning for the exam, but my bath time… Was me time. Yea, I stay there for 2 hours… Which might be strange to some people, but when I am feeling overwhelmed, when I am feeling bad and emotional, those 2 hours do so much for me.
I literally hide there for my responsibilities and things going wrong. (when things get really bad I can literally hide there for 4 hours… And at that point it is because I don’t want to go out and have to deal with all that stuff again. Deal with my own failure essentially)
It’s not about being physically clean, but you come out of there feeling so much better. So I can understand that for some people, that time is their yoga time, or their skincare routine, or making healthy food. It’s something we need to justify doing by saying it’s for hygene or for our physical wellness, but it’s actually just to bring some peace to our head.
Going back to basics, just relax, don’t worry about the overly complex emotions you feel, or the world that seems to be falling apart.
Just take an extra bath this week and things will be fine 🙂

I’ve also noticed that the worse I feel about myself, the more I feel like a failure, I put more time into my looks. I take a lot of time to do my hair, to get a nice outfit ready, to do some makeup. And I think that that’s also because the more time I groom myself, the less time I have to worry about failing at everything else. Yes, I’m an absolute mess, I’m completely messing up this amazing opportunity that I have…. But at least I can feel confident about my looks. I don’t have a pretty face, but have you seen my hair?Yea, I cut it myself and styled it myself. And my outfit… I look fucking bomb. And it’s completely my doing. I get to feel proud of that.

Here goes nothing-》I am not attacking anybody but these overly wellness and self-care, wake up at 5am everyday, drink lemon water in the morning, buy expensive skincare and cute workout clothes videos are so annoying and boring I feel like people are so focused on themselves and want to make everything esthetically pleasing that it gets boring and just seems fake in general. Life is about balance you cannot spend the entirety of your life making nice drink and waking up at 5:00am with a lot of energy to go to the gym. LIFE it’s not a straight line it’s a mixed of feeling excessively good, bad and being in the middle most of the time and unless people get that they will still pretend to be happy on a 5seconds video but spend there whole life fake achieving happiness and health. Okay bye I don’t know why I am writing a whole essay about this. One last argument do you guys notice that all these people are self-centered I am the most happy and healthy when I am around people I love and you never just see videos about people calling that self-care. We need to be less focused on trying to be happy and let’s just be, I am sure happiness and the rest are going to come and probably leave as it please them

  44. Lauren Easton on January 1, 2023 at 3:56 am

the green crystal at the beginning that was being described as one that “catapults” you into change was malachite and uh, it’s not as big and scary as she made it sound. it doesn’t force change upon you and throw you into change it’s better described as revealing what change serves you best and allowing you to act on those changes, it’s made out to be much scarier than it is, there’s no reason to be afraid of malachite unless you aren’t looking for change then it might not be the sparkly rock for you lol

People will always, mostly tolerate shit visuals, like 280p

Due to chronic illness I, amongst other things, have to deal with chronic fatigue, so wellness means somehting a little different to me that I can’t necessarily market on social media. To me it often means trying to get enough sleep, communicating with friends when I’m not up to a plan we made and sometimes even reaching for a microwave meal during stressfull times because it’s bette to eat something rather than nothing when I don’t have the energy to cook a homemade meal.
