Here’s the blog post I mention in the video: https://www.lyndicohen.com/how-to-study-work-nutritionist-dietitian/
I’m a dietitian and nutritionist (hello!) And in this video, I’m sharing my nutrition career advice and my journey starting my nutrition and health business, The Nude Nutritionist. I hope it helps you avoid some of the mistakes I made and get to your goals quicker!
I talk about how to study to be a nutritionist (and explain my qualifications), talk getting your first job out university or college, share tips on how to earn enough money to pay off student debt, ideas and tips to improve your nutrition business, how to be a media nutritionist and work on TV, how to find a nutrition niche and more.
I’m still on the fence with becoming a nutritionist, because I’m into carpentry and I don’t want to spend 6 years studying Nutrition and have to pay so much money for college.
I just realized, that I wanted to get into nutrition. Because I have been obsessed with it sense I was 16,(without realizing jt ) I suffer from hypothyroidism and I have successfully lost over 40lbs following a diet, and would want help other people with a similar condition. I am just starting my college career at 24 years old and looks forward to really building something for myself. Great video good insight
m a registered nutritionist-dietian here in philippines, Do you have any information where can i apply for work or a sponsored student visa for nutrition, outside philippines?
HEY LYNDI COHEN, your video was really helpful for me . I am a first year student in B.Sc nutrition , dietetics and FSM. After getting admission into the college, i was discouraged by many people aroun me for choosing this degree. even my close relatives were not happy that i have chosen this degree as my career. please help me to find a good way
This was amazing!! I definitely want to become a nutritionist now 🙂
Do you find that you get clients even though you are not fitting into the mainstream mold of being skinny ?
RD2BE here– SAME.
can you give us tips on where to volunteer, how to get the internship and increase our competitiveness
THANKS for Sharing THIS
Like, I’m not even anywhere near the nutrition field (I’m finishing up my degree in music) but I’ve had an interest in the health sciences field lately. All that to say, your video is helpful to those who graduate college IN GENERAL and aren’t finding jobs period, but especially in the field they have a degree in! It’s all about the grind, being creative, and reaching out to people. I think that applies whether it’s a degree in nutrition or history or music. Knowledge is power, especially specialized knowledge. I’m so glad things worked out for you! I will have my my own success story one day! Also, quick question: did your dietitian program not have practicums?
Very helpful video Lyndi! Thank you
I just came across your blog and this video, thank you so much for sharing your journey. So many people keep their journey to themselves and don’t want to share their experience. Coming into this later in life, this information has helped me work out a plan to get my qualifications and experience whilst keeping my current job to support myself along the way. Thank you again
It’s a very realistic journey , thank you
New subscriber💕 I’m still going to a community college but I do want to go into a dietitian program when I go to a 4 year and I was wondering if you had any advice? Like if you could do your whole 4 years over what would you keep the same and what would you change
Nice. Second year Nutrition Student.
I just started studying Cert IV in Nutrition. I admit I’m struggling 😣
Thanks for going online – your KIR program literally changed my life. I’m from Belfast (northern ireland) so would never have had access to the info otherwise!
I am a fresh nutrition graduate in Kenya. I just feel lost. Don’t know where to begin. But this has really encouraged me that it can indeed be done☺️
Studying nutrition entails a lot of science but few people understand. We aren’t valued that much in my country
Thank u for the video. It is just what i needed . Very inspirational .
Hi there. This was very awesome! I have been trying to look for a awesome video similar to yours that really breaks down the ideas in this vid. 👩⚕️Your video actually is similar to the content from Dr. Ethan. Doctor Ethan’s tips are educational and he really helped me a lot on exams.
Go see his page out and give the Dr a like! 👉 #DrEthanYouTube
20 years as a dietitian, give me a clear picture that this career is very important in our community
This was an interesting and inspirational video. Thank for sharing! Love your attitude!
hello thank you so much for the video
I want to become a dietitian also… Tnk u for this video .. 🤗🤗🤗is it hard to be ?
I’ve never EVER commented on a YouTube video. Which is crazy, considering I am 24 y/old. I graduated from Utah State University with a dietetic degree, and am now just finishing my internships throughout the US. I LOVE dietetics, and I love counseling. I am getting very stressed about what I am going to do once I finish with my RD exam. Today has really been a life decision kind of day, so I was watching video’s by dietitians, talking about their career. I have started a few small businesses (gymnastics coaching, and seamstress work) while I was putting myself through college. When I graduated, I decided I wanted to have a 9-5 job, because I would be able to stop making stressful decisions. However, watching your video, not only made me feel more confident in my abilities to be a successful dietitian, it also made me remember how much I enjoyed owning my own business and working my own hours. THANK you for your calming words. Great job finding something you love!
I am a fresh graduate with Human Nutrition degree and I really I got inspired ..
Thank you for this amazing video
Brilliant video!
This was literally so so helpful. I just read your blog as well. Thank you so much!
Hi i want to pursue course in nutrition and i am from non science background can still purse it? Plz guide. I have done my MBA and my culinary course.
I’m planning to be a nutritionist
Just seeing this. I graduated in dec 2016, never applied to dicas and I lost my way. I wasn’t prepared and I know I did this to myself. I was too embarrassed to go to my professor on my personal statement cause I was way to personal. I feel ashamed but I want to at least get into an internship so I can at least do something as an rd! I have self pitied far too long. I want to blog recipes as I want to do it for fun. I had so many reasons to not Pursuing to be an rd. Cost of internship, long application which felt off putting cause I didn’tknow I had to do another internship after graduation (found out later taking a class that is how this whole thing works), it made me feel like I fell out from my passion cause of the shock. But something about learning more about food really interests me. I am now going back and see if I can do rdt (registered dietitian technician) I heard they are not existing anymore (I don’t know if that is true). Thank you for this video! It was a good refresher.
I’m in my last year of high school, studying Food and Nutrition as a class and loving it!! I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, but thank you for providing such an amazing video on the key tips on things i need to know!!
Very inspirational video, thank you!
Thank you so much for opening up and sharing your story. I’m on the same path as you <3
This was so informative, I’m graduating high school this year & planning to study dietetics. I know it’ll be super challenging which frightens me but I rlyy want to do it & this was just what I needed to see!!
WOW YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I NEEDED THIS. THIS LITERALLY FED MY SOUL 🥺🥺
Lyndi, I enjoyed your video so much. It was very helpful, thank you.
I have been always interested in nutrition and I think that is what I want to do, but I am afraid of changing my major completely, as I have already started my degree in LCC University in international business administration.
What do you do if you can’t get an internship?
This is a really great personal story and really great advice in general. And I love your personal explanation of your niche. Awesome Work! Thank you for the content 🙏🏽
I have a question. I am wanting to become a fitness coach + nutritionist. Would you say you can become one by just studying with this places like ISSA or NASM, or would you recommend to go to university to do it? Thanks for sharing your experience!!
I’m in a completely different field, but I was genuinely interested in your video. I think anyone can apply some of the things you mentioned, as it can be helpful for starting a business or just marketing yourself to companies. Thank you for sharing.
Also, I really look up to you for sharing your struggles with BED. It brings me hope that I can have a healthy relationship with food, and also get back to a healthy weight in a healthy and sustainable way.
Why are there so few men in nutrition?
thank you so much you are amazing ….nearly qualified holistic nutritionist
I am a nutritionist and dietician too ,I can relate everything you are talking about , at the beginning it can be really tough
Hi Lyndi! I am a future Dietitian (internship is this August). In your opinion and experience, do you think having a certification as a Personal Trainer is an advantage for becoming a Sports Dietitian? As well as possibly an advantage for being a Clinical Dietitian? I would assume it only gives an advantage for Sports Dietitians, and even possibly not because one sports Dietitian I watched had mostly experiences/responsibilities in Food Service, and 1-on-1 counseling. Let me know. Thank you!
Soo your telling me I can become a dietitian AND a nutritionist! My new goal.
This was so informative thank you! I don’t know if you’ll read this, but I would like to ask you a question: I’m thinking of going back to school, but since I’m in my 30’s I don’t want to go to a four year college. I’m looking into certificate programs from Hawthorn University or Bauman College so I do two years instead of four and its cheaper too than 4 year degree. My question is are certificates taken seriously in the industry like 4 year degree or would I be wasting my time?
I graduated 5 months ago and i feel veryyyy hopeless. Thank you for the motivation 😇
Great Video it is giving me hope to what i’m majoring in
