Yes dear portion size is very very important even in nutritious diets.
I’m a RN who worked in behavioral health for the past several years. I primarily worked with patients who were homeless and I was always concerned about their diets. It was so difficult to administer medications for depression and anxiety when my gut told me what they needed more were proper nutrients, especially the B vitamins. This is such a problem for the homeless today when they can’t afford to eat right. They end up hanging out at fast food restaurants where they are more likely to get help to buy food. Thank you for this excellent video!
Isn’t there a satiety index?
excellent presentation. Thank you very much.
Why on earth should we be hesitant to eat eggs with bacon and butter??? Two foods that even according to this lecture should be (and are) perfectly safe in conjunction with low carb eating.
Dr. John McDougall TOTALLY DISAGREES with your way of eating and has many success stories about "feeling better." Why eat meat or dairy? Was actually painful to listen to your presentation.
Poor audio, any ideas how to improve it?
I like this presentation in that it made connections. She links things you know together in such a way that it is easier to understand how the system works. It is one thing to know that you need B vitamins, lean meat, and Omega 3. It is another thing to understand how they work together within us.
Wtf is she saying ok after every sentence for ffs
Processed Sugar is poison. It,s in most man made foods. You said white potatoes are bad. I ate nothing but white potatoes for three months and lost 35 lBS. Never limited amount and was never hungry. Blood work came out great.
Great to hear all of this from a Dietitian 🙂
A larger than moderate use of sugar tears away our stored B vitamins and can steer us into a crash! Depression is to me like a constant mood crash… quarrelsomeness, fear, more 08:38 likely!

What’s the great expanse of chest for. 😁
Good presentation… But no need to be concerned about tryptophan. It was about 30 years ago when the very first product resulting from genetic modification was put on the market and that was the GM version of tryptophan. The scientists missed the fact that the GM process caused a tiny amount of very toxic substance to be also be produced which was included in the final product. Some people died and thousands were sickened. So GM tryptophan was taken off the market.
There was nothing wrong with the tryptophan supplement before the GM version, and nothing wrong with it now. Just avoid GMOs!!!!!
Are you saying we should be eating insects for our Alpha Linoleic acid?
The high consumption of grains makes you hypoglycemic, then alcohol compounds this multiple times. Because alcohol is made from decomposed grains..
We should always natural, those foods gives us all we need
Great video
Non COOKED OILS. HEATED OILS TURN TOXIC.
This lecture should be immediately removed from Youtube; it is so out of date; it is almost dangerous.
What the hell are we supposed to eat!!! I’m sick to death of these so called experts giving us completely different information about food. The stress caused by the worry of eating wrong foods is the main killer. A little of what ya fancy does ya good.🇮🇪🇮🇪
Published 4 years ago, excellent presentation, hope more people see this!
I know it’s almost 8 years later, but why did the speaker mix up metric measurements with American oz’s. It’s unnecessarily confusing. Why not post a comment right in the description doing the metric and separately the American measurements? Can anyone from UCSD please do that since Ms Newman is no longer with us?
Still promoting the fat fear and cholesterol myth. Our brain needs cholesterol. It is made of it.
Egads! Microwave? Really? Do that and change what may have been food into something the body cannot recognize as such.
Thank you! this is so true…I have begun taking superfoods Chlorella and Spirulina and within minutes I feel very energetic and very positive..Being over 60 is difficult. Dont make it worse by "Living for food"..Lets begin a new idea of "eating to live better".
All mental health problems are caused by severe calcium deficiency. This begins in the womb or in infancy. The human body can assimilate calcium only from fresh, natural, uncooked foods – especially leafy greens and grasses, wheatgrass. Artificial supplements do not work. The best way to get the calcium from greens is through green smoothies.
Brain chemical imbalances have never been proved.
One of the reasons why mental health problems generally develop or manifest in late adolescence is because of the body’s need for tremendous amounts of calcium due to the sudden spurt in physical growth.
Calcium is needed for proper neurotransmitter function.
It is also important to minimise chronic cellular inflammation by avoiding white sugar, refined carbs and oils and fats that increase cellular inflammation.
Cellular inflammation prevents the absorption of nutrients – vitamins and minerals.
Interesting im looking at ways to boost my dopamine due to adhd and being pre diabetic fatty liver etc. I considering exercising, working out as a solution. I over eat and im hopping this will help my food craving also.
Good presentation and overall good advice except of your advice on choline , excessive choline in the diet is associated with increased risk of cancer via it’s conversion into TMAO , I would not recommend eating eggs .
Agave is highly processed and not healthy. Stevia extract in dropper bottle by Sweet Leaf has no chemicals in it.
Lovely lady ! who needs to do more research on sweeteners and there is lots of information on all sweeteners! Sad you don’t know considering your talk
